Bookboard, mulberry paper-backed linen, embroidery floss, paper, scissor 5.5"h x 3.5"w x 2.15"d (October 2008) My maternal grandmother was a renowned seamstress, who for a time made her own line of children's clothes from her home in New Haven, Connecticut. From this initial inspiration arose other ideas: associations with mythology, what it means to "carry" a child, and the shifting, sometimes fragile, but ineffaceable bond between mother and child. There, I've said too much... Embroidery on box interior by my wife, Laura Buss, who was taught by her grandmother. |
