My maternal grandmother was a renowned seamstress, who for a time made her own line of children's clothes from her home in New Haven, Connecticut. From this initial inspiration arose other ideas: associations with mythology, what it means to "carry" a child, and the shifting, sometimes fragile, but ineffaceable bond between mother and child.
